
Call for applications: Residency for Arab composers in Uganda
Belgium-based arts organisation Mophradat, in partnership with Ugandan based record label Nyege Nyege, is inviting composers from the Arab world to apply for their joint 10-day residency programme, which will take place between 1 April and 3 May 2022.
- The application deadline is 20 January 2022.
Specific dates will be determined upon consultation with the resident(s).
Successful applicants will be hosted at the Nyege Nyege Villa in Kampala, Uganda, where they will work to create new compositions or explore and research new ideas.
Who can apply?
This opportunity is available to:
- A composer (s) with up to two collaborators.
- A band comprised of a maximum of three musicians.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be from the Arab world.
- Applicants must be working on their own compositional projects.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are active in music scenes locally and/or internationally.
- Applicants active within the experimental, electronic, hybrid electronic music are encouraged to apply.
Note:
- The composer(s) must be comfortable working autonomously, be open to collaboration, and be able to work under a variety of conditions.
- A narrative summary of what was achieved must be submitted to Mophradat within two weeks of the end of the residency.
Successful applicants will receive the following:
- Access to professional recording studios and equipment throughout their stay, to which they will receive a technical introduction.
- Accommodation in a private room on-site with the use of a shared kitchen.
- Economy return airfares and per diems
- Reimburse visa costs and any required COVID-19 tests in compliance with the regulations in effect at the time of travel.
