Call for applications: TED Fellows 2023
Applications are ongoing for the TED Fellows Programme 2023, which is geared toward innovators on the rise in their respective fields who are doing bold, original work.
The initiative recognises people behind world-changing ideas across music, film, photography, science, education, advocacy and leadership, among other fields.
“The TED Fellows Programme provides transformational support to a global community of over 500 remarkable individuals who are collaborating across disciplines to spark future-shaping change around the world,” TED said.
Previous African TED Fellows include Blitz Bazawule (2019), Muthoni Drummer Queen (2019), Somi (2015), Blinky Bill (2014), Meklit Hadero (2012) and Melaku Belay (2022).
Who should apply?
- Individuals over the age of 18 and working on future-shaping ideas may apply.
- The TED Fellows Programme is not an academic fellowship and non-traditional education is welcome.
- In addition to impressive accomplishments, fine character and a good heart are also important traits sought after in TED Fellows.
How to apply
- To apply, interested participants must submit an application online during the open application cycle. Their written application is the primary means for showcasing their work, which should include what makes it unique and impactful.
- Before submitting an application, applicants are encouraged to learn more about the support the TED Fellows Programme provides and go through the application tips.
- Applicants are encouraged to write clearly for a general audience. Only applications written in English will be accepted. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Interested participants can apply here.
The application deadline is 30 June at 1.59am CAT.
Selection process
- TED Fellows are selected by the programme staff, with extensive reference checking, fact checking and consultation with experts across all fields.
- Applicants may receive requests for additional information from the TED team.
- Ultimately, there is no algorithm for how TED selects fellows. Fellows are selected based on their accomplishments in their respective fields, the potential impact of their work, as well as their character. The ideal applicant is collaborative in their pursuits and in their nature, and is at a moment in their career to maximise the support of the TED community.
- Applicants can expect to hear back from the TED Fellows programme eight months after the application closes. All applicants are notified whether or not they have been selected to join the TED Fellows programme.
