Call for entries: Nigerian Songwriting Competition
The annual Nigerian Songwriting Competition (NSC) is accepting entries from amateur and professional songwriters.
In addition to awards and cash prizes, the winners will also benefit from a multilateral promotional campaign designed to give national exposure and attention to their songwriting achievements.
Applicants can submit as many songs in as many categories as they wish. The application fee is 1 000 naira per song or category.
The jury will shortlist the top 10 finalists in each category and the overall winner. Prizes and awards will be sent to the address provided during the application process.

Interested applicants can apply in the following categories:
- Afro-pop/pop
- Afrobeats
- Highlife
- Reggae/makossa/dancehall
- Nigerian rap/hip hop
- R&B/blues/soul
- Inspirational/religious music
- Just lyrics/poetry/spoken word
- Traditional ethnic music
- Instrumentalist/producer
- Classical/jazz/rock
- Fuji/juju
Requirements
- An MP3 recording (5 minutes max).
- A lyric sheet in Word format.
Note:
- All entry fees are non-refundable.
- The entrant retains all ownership rights to all submitted song(s).
- All files should be named in the following order: 'Song name-composer name'.
- The finalists and winners will be notified by emails and/or telephonically after which the will be published on the NSC official website.
Important dates
- Application deadline – 30 October.
- Announcement of finalists – 18 December.
- Announcement of winners – 29 January 2021.
