Call for nominations: Oud competition in Tunis
The Taher Al-Haddad Cultural Club in Tunis, Tunisia, is accepting nominations for the Oriental Oud competition, which will be part of the National Festival of the Oud in the city between 7 and 14 May.
The festival is held annually under the supervision of the Regional Commission for Culture in Tunis‘ governorate. It aims to introduce the oud on the practical, theoretical, philosophical and aesthetic levels. This event also seeks to demonstrate the degree of Tunisian musicians’ skills on the instrument and provides a platform for young musicians to highlight their talents and abilities.
The festival’s activities include:
- Artistic performances.
- Competition in playing the oud.
- A scientific symposium.
- Training.
- Various sub-activities.
Requirements
- A motivation letter that should be signed by the nominated performer (inclusive of the address, phone number and email of the candidate).
- Technical proposal project.
- CV of the candidate.
- A high-quality photograph.
- A copy of the candidate’s national identity card.
- Three copies of an audio-visual recording of all the segments of the solo project.

Note:
- The recordings must be free of sound effects and clear enough to enable the various committees to examine the candidate’s musical executions, both as audio and video.
- The recordings must be submitted either on a CD or USB stick.

The application deadline is 7 March.
Prizes
- First prize – 3 000 dinars ($1 100).
- The second prize – 2 000 dinars.
- The third prize – 1 000 dinars.
The nominees who live less than 100km from the city will receive 300 dinars transport and accommodation while those who live more than 200km from the city will receive 400 dinars. To receive this financial support, the nominee must present a valid residence certificate.
