Call for projects: Orange Foundation funding for African festivals and artists
The Orange Foundation is inviting festival organisers and music groups in Africa to submit their projects for funding.
The call is open to 16 African countries in which the Orange Foundation is present. They are Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Tunisia.
Objectives:
- Support the creation and dissemination of African music.
- Open up the emerging musical scene.
- Develop mediation and sensitisation actions to support access for all audiences.
The call for projects is open to:
- Music festivals.
- French Institutes, French Alliances and Cultural Centres.
- Labels and production companies.
Note: No individual support to private persons (artist, producer, etc.)
Selection procedure
Pre-selection will be done by Orange Country Foundations teams before the final selection by the Orange Foundation with the help of a committee of musical experts.
Selection criteria
Festivals
- Eligible for a festival that has existed for at least two years.
- The festival must take place between April 2023 and March 2024.
- Minimum of five concerts programmed.
Artistic
- Repertoires: world music, jazz, hip hop, rap and song.
- Artistic orientation enhancing the musical heritage of the countries and open to contemporary creation (meeting and/or fusion of traditional and contemporary music).
- Programming of young talented musicians and singers from Africa who are professionals or in the process of becoming professionals.
Public
- Reaching a large audience (minimum 1 000 people).
- Proposing solidarity and/or educational actions for the public.
- Accessibility of isolated and/or fragile public (free concerts, access of people with disabilities).
Budget (in euro)
- Realistic and balanced budget (proposed model).
- Maximum support from the Orange Foundation corresponding to 25% of the overall budget up to a limit of €10 000 (about $11 000).
Visibility and promotion
- Capacity to promote the festival: website and social networks, media partners.
- Assurance of visibility for the Orange Foundation and other partners.
Musical groups
Artistic
- Musicians from one of the 16 African countries mentioned above.
- Emerging scene: Professional artists or artists in the process of becoming professional, with promising career development prospects.
- Solo artist (voice, instrument) or musical group with voice.
- Repertoires: African music, world music, contemporary music, jazz, chanson, hip hop.
Type of project supported:
- Concert tour 2023 in African countries (attach a calendar with dates and venues).
- Record album (specify label, distribution, print run, titles recorded, recording and release dates).
- Professional training: specify type of training, objectives and expected results.
Application form (for festivals and musical groups)
After filling in the online questionnaire, the partner must submit the following documents:
- Statutes of the organisation submitting the application.
- Presentation of the festival or the musical group (date of creation, biographies of the artists).
- Artistic programme 2023 (presentation of the artists and musical groups, number of members, musical style, song or album title).
- Concert calendar with dates/places/times/artists (specify for each concert if confirmed or planned).
- Detailed budget forecast for 2023 (model proposed for festivals).
- Balance sheet of the previous year or edition (proposed model).
Other documents to be attached (optional)
- Musical sound extracts or videos of the artists.
- Press review.
