Call for registration: CAPASSO notification of works
South African mechanical rights licensing body the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association (CAPASSO) is calling on its members to prioritise the submission of notifications of works.
CAPASSO is also asking its members to liaise with the works-ingestion team to make sure that all active works are notified in order to unlock potential royalties.
Members are encouraged to make use of the unidentified or partially matched lists that are updated regularly to ensure notification of priority works.
Members can access the notification of works form here.
Before filling in the form, members should be in possession of the following information:
- Title of the song.
- Name of composer.
- Publisher.
- Song’s catalogue number.
“Our team is hard at work ensuring that our members are duly compensated for the exploitation of their works,” CAPASSO said. “In order to continue reaching milestones, the importance of song information or metadata cannot be overstated.
“The rise in digital music consumption has resulted in an increased need for accurate song information. Without accurate song information or metadata, it will become difficult and almost impossible to collect and distribute royalties from digital platforms going forward.”
CAPASSO says members should “take their time when completing the form to avoid errors that delay CAPASSO processing of the notification of works and the subsequent distribution of royalties."
"For those members who are common works registration (CWR) capable, it is imperative that regular CWR files are sent to CAPASSO to ensure that the works are ingested."
All notifications of works should be sent to notifications@capasso.co.za.
