Ghana Music Awards USA announces new board
Ghanaian broadcaster and artist manager Kwasi Aboagye was on 12 January announced as the new board chair of the Ghana Music Awards USA (GMA-USA).
Aboagye succeeds music producer Kwesi Ernest and will be at the helm of the event’s second and third editions in 2021 and 2022 respectively. A presenter with Accra-based Peace 104.3 FM, Aboagye also manages legendary highlife artist Amakye Dede.
“In his acceptance speech, Aboagye pledged unflinching support for the platform as well as his commitment to projecting the awards ceremony in a new light,” a statement reads. “Additionally, he promised to collaborate with other experts on the board toward the achievement of the goals of the scheme.”
The board also comprises Frank Owusu (Hitz FM presenter), Yaw Ansah (Highlife Media CEO), Isaac Donkor (Adinkra Radio CEO), Kwesi Ernest (Media Excel Ghana CEO), Kwame Micky (music producer) and Nathan Pryce (US-based musician and producer).
Also elected on the board are Kusi Mensah Capito (presenter at Highlife Media and GMA-USA executive communication director), Gloria Akpe Acquah (broadcast journalist at Media General and GMA-USA country rep), Vida Bonsu (radio presenter at Highlife Media and GMA-USA board secretary), Papa Bills (Adom FM producer) and Dennis Boafo (Don’s Music Production CEO).
First held in October 2020, the Ghana Music Awards USA seeks to encourage and recognise Ghanaian musicians in the diaspora, especially in the US to actively participate in promoting and celebrating Ghana music. The event is organised by Don’s Music Production in partnership with 2Geez Entertainment and Highlife Media USA.
