Ghana’s Amaarae to join Childish Gambino world tour
Ghanaian singer Amaarae has been confirmed as a special guests on US rapper Childish Gambino’s upcoming world tour starting next month.
The announcement coincides with the surprise release of Childish Gambino’s album Atavista on Monday. Amaarae was named alongside US singer Willow for the global marathon, christened The New World Tour, which will include nearly 80 dates and conclude in February 2025.
“On tour w/ childish (@donaldglover) this fall thru to 2025,” Amaarae posted on X. “It’s gonna be a wild time!”
Amaarae’s announcement follows the Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA’s) platinum certification of her ‘Sad Girlz Luv Money’ remix featuring Kali Uchis & Moliy on 6 May, marking more than 1 million unit sales.
On tour, Amaarae, whose music blends R&B, hip hop, punk rock and Afropop, will perform tracks from her albums The Angel You Don’t Know (2020) and Fountain Baby (2023).
Last year, speaking to Music In Africa, Amaarae said she was “interested in representing Africa in the best way possible on the global stage, even coming back to my last album. I’m well-travelled and love exploring new places so that I can teach my people something new, but at the end of the day, all that matters is that I’m African and that’s what I’m representing.” Now she will get to live this sentiment while on The New World Tour.
Meanwhile, beginning in June, Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr will join Chris Brown’s tour in support of his 2023 album 11:11.
