Kaya FM brings Mafikizolo to The Bassline
South African singing duo Mafikizolo will headline Kaya FM’s popular series Live @ The Bassline on 5 November in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The previous edition was headlined by South African jazz and Afro-pop singer Judith Sephuma and Durban-born jazz singer Brenda Mtambo.
Mafikizolo will be performing at the Newtown venue for the first time since it was opened 11 years ago. Supporting Mafikizolo will be Encore, an Afro-soul trio made up of Peter Letsoalo, Keabetswe Kototsi and Kabelo Thomane.
Mafikizolo will no doubt put on a lively performance that includes a list of hits from their impressive catalogue of music. Local fans should expect chart-topping hits such as ‘Reunited’, ‘Happiness’, ‘Meet Me At The River’ and ‘Marabi’.
Undoubtedly among the biggest entertainers in southern Africa, the duo have travelled and performed on many international stages. The group is currently in the US and Canada, where they are headlining several gigs. In August, they performed together with KO at Dance Harare 2016 at Belgravia Sports Club in Harare, Zimbabwe. In early October, the group worked with DRC artist Tresor on a new single titled ‘Soar’. The single will be officially released later this year.
Mafikizolo has wowed audiences across Africa and the world, including performances alongside Akon at Wembley Stadium in the UK. Their music has earned regional and global recognition and saw them winning a record eight SAMA awards in 2014. They were nominated in the Best International Act (Africa) category at the 2014 Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards. Their song ‘Khona’ won two MTV Africa Music Awards.
Encore has been around since 2009 and became popular with their first single ‘Ke Fela Pelo’, which was on high rotation on major radio stations. Since then, the group has performed at major events and festivals, such as Joy of Jazz in Johannesburg, the Capital Arts Festival, Rendezvous and the African Jazz Night in Pretoria.
Bassline has grown to become a major concert production house in South Africa. In a statement, organisers of the event said: “The partnership with Kaya FM and Bassline to create a music platform for African artists to showcase their craft has been successful and well received.”
It further reads, “We have no doubt that Mafikizolo will carry the Afropolitan music torch with pride with their live show that is an experience like no other.”
