Lionel Richie to rock South Africa ‘All Night Long’

All The Hits has already sold out across the globe in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the USA and the Middle East. The hit-filled show features popular favourites from his early days with The Commodores to his hugely successful solo career. Richie is fresh from a sold-out European tour and a recent headline slot at Glastonbury in the UK that garnered rave reviews. The Guardian called it “A show that swings between raucous R&B and chocolate-box ballads, all of it fantastic”, while The Telegraph wrote, “The sound made by 200 000 people singing in unison is quite something to behold. It was a sincere affirmation of his real standing in pop culture as a hit-maker of the highest order”. 

The South African leg of Richie’s tour will kick off on Sunday 13 March at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. On Wednesday 16 March he will peform at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, a city often overlooking for touring international stars. Friday 18 March will see him perform at Cape Town Stadium before he heads to Johannesburg for two shows, on Sunday 20 March and Monday 21 March (a public holiday) at the Ticketpro Dome. 

One of the world’s biggest-selling artists of all time, Lionel Richie has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. As a member of the Commodores, Lionel developed a groundbreaking style that defied genre categories, penning smashes such as ‘Three Times A Lady’, ‘Still’, and ‘Easy’. After writing ‘Lady’ for Kenny Rogers, and ‘Endless Love’ with Diana Ross (which garnered an Academy Award and a Golden Globe nomination), Motown asked him to do a solo album. The self-titled 1982 debut would cement him as a star in his own right and earn him his very first Grammy for the hit ‘Truly’. The diamond-certified Album of the Year winner Can’t Slow Down followed in 1983, giving the world classics such as ‘All Night Long (All Night)’, ‘Penny Lover’, ‘Stuck On You’, and ‘Hello’.

Since his heyday in the 80s, Richie remains active as a recording artist today, releasing albums such as Coming Home (2006), Just Go (2009) and Tuskegee (2012), became Richie's third number-one album on the Billboard 200. It was his first album to top the charts and to sell more than a million copies in the USA since Dancing on the Ceiling in 1986, proof that the crooner is still very much at the top of his game. He is rumoured to be working on his 11th solo studio album for release in 2016.
