Maestro Chris Ajilo to headline Afropolitan Vibes concert.
Afropolitan Vibes concert holds on 30 January 2015, to be headlined by veteran Band-leader Chris Ajilo.
The first Afropolitan Vibes Concert of the year shall hold on Friday January 30, 2015 in the usual surrounds of Lagos' iconic venue, the Freedom Park. As usual, the organisers have pulled off another major coup in terms of its headline acts for the year, in the person of veteran Saxophonist, Composer and Bandleader,
Chris Ajilo (full name, Christopher Ajilore). Chris Ajilo, is widely reputed to have recorded the first Afrobeat track, titled 'Ariwo' in 1963.The song was to be covered by Afro-Rock legends Osibisa, as 'Ayiko bia' in 1972. Ajilo went on to record several Highlife hits, including the ever-green tribute to the city of Lagos, 'Eko Akete'. Now in his early 80's the maestro was also, a Radio Producer and a significant member of the third generation of Nigerian Musicologists. Needless to say, 60 years of Nigerian music history and gravitas shall be on display on the Afropolitan Concert stage on Friday January 30 2015.
There is additionally a stellar line-up of younger, but hugely accomplished stars, including the formidably talented, award-winning, Neo-Soul crooner Bez Idakula. Afro Hip-Hop prodigy Ajebutter and the powerful vocal phenomenon that is Ruby Gyang. All of these will be supported by lead organiser Ade Bantu and his hard-working band, fondly known as the "Agbero's" (street tough's).
Music in Africa, shall as usual be there to cover this truly special event.
