- Guy Buttery.
At the age of 30, Buttery has achieved what most musicians accomplish in a lifetime. With sell-out performances in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil, France, Italy and all over Southern Africa, Guy Buttery has been proclaimed as a "national treasure" and “one of South Africa’s most influential artists over the past decade". With two South African Music Awards (SAMAs) already under his belt and four Standard Bank Ovation Awards, Buttery has performed his works with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and an endless list of several of South Africa’s greats, including Vusi Mahlasela. His previous tour of SA was voted ‘Top Live Show of the Year’ by The Cape Times.
Since the release of his 2002 debut album When I Grow Up while still in his teens, Buttery has propelled his career far beyond the borders of his beloved South Africa. As an internationally recognized musician, he enjoys invitations to play sold-out performances all over the globe. His international career has grown beyond merely playing shows to foreign audiences; it has evolved into one as an ambassador of South African music, inspiring people across the world with a home-grown African style at the very heart of his talent and tenacity. Buttery is a musical advocate for everything positive and beautiful about South Africa. After receiving another Standard Bank Ovation Award for ‘Best Live Performance’ at the 2014 National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, he has continued to push the envelope of what a solo artist is capable of. He is currently working on his sixth studio album thanks to an amibitious crowdfunding campaign.
The upcoming national tour will see Guy joined by drummer Gareth Gale for all KZN and Gauteng concerts, with solo shows in the Eastern Cape from 16 October.
