SA: Pilani Bubu's Lockdown Lovestory EP out
South African singer Pilani Bubu has released her new EP Lockdown Lovestory. The new project is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
The project chronicles authentic stories of inspiration, identity and influence. Lockdown Lovestory was written and recorded at the height of the pandemic during the artist's time in quarantine.
The different lockdown levels were real chapters of her life and this love story. It was inspired by the journey she took in a long distance and virtual relationship, exploring the nuances of loneliness and longing presented by these circumstances.
"Lockdown Lovestory has been about having a lot of fun whilst telling this story,” Pilani Bubu wrote on social media. “The EP is out today on all digital platforms and then on Saturday we celebrate by having even more fun. Dressed in all the colours of the rainbow.”
Marked by beautiful melodies, cohesively held by her love for vocal harmony and rhythmic guitars, Pilani Bubu also goes layers deep with the use of vintage mics, effects, synths and a Rhodes piano, adding a fresh edge and urban feel to this modern-day story.
The six-track EP features Afronautiq on a song called ‘As We Lay’. Pilani Bubu also worked with beatmakers and producers Samuel ‘Sichangi’ Namasaka (Kenya), Ludwe Danxa (South Africa) and Andras Weil (Hiungary) as well as guitarist Bradley Prince (South Africa), who all came together serendipitously to inspire her story.
