SA: Shekhinah’s Rosefest to go virtual in October
The 2020 edition of Rosefest will be held virtually on 11 October, and will be the culmination of the Sunday conversation series and other activities that took place on its digital platforms throughout 2020.
The all-female festival, which is the brainchild of South African singer and songwriter Shekhinah, seeks to highlight performances and contributions from female artists beyond Women’s Month in South Africa. This year's edition will feature singers, rappers, celebrities and artists who will perform alongside the songstress. The line-up is yet to be announced.
“Rosefest culminates into an amazing music experience,” Shekhinah said. “However, the journey of Rosefest has been eight weeks of creating open discussions with women through conversations like body image, anxiety, gender-based violence, bias in the workplace and deeper discussions that highlight women while educating society.
“It’s been a difficult journey but I’m so proud that we are making it happen again this year, virtually, and I am in awe of how everyone has come together to make this happen. I’m really excited to work with live broadcasting, and make Rosefest a beautiful experience for everyone – from the artists to the audience.”
Last year, Rosefest held its inaugural editions in Johannesburg and Durban, and featured artists and personalities including Sho Madjozi, DJ Zinhle, Kim Jayde, Lady Zamar and DJ Doowap, among others.
The event is about performance across genres and cultures. It aims to contribute towards making actionable change in the music and creative industries, offering equal opportunity, fair pay and equitable access to development for women while acknowledging the context that they work in.
Rosefest has set up a partnership with LifeLine Pietermaritzburg, which will see ongoing support and investment into programmes focusing on the development of young girls and boys. Profits from ticket sales for the event will be directed towards this objective.
The event will be streamed from 6pm to 8pm. Tickets are available here.
