Tunji Balogun and Addy Awofisayo to speak at Columbia Africa Conference
Leading African music industry professionals including Def Jam chairperson and CEO Tunji Balogun and YouTube head of music for sub-Saharan Africa Addy Awofisayo will speak at this year’s Columbia Africa Conference taking place in New York on 28 and 29 October.
Formerly called the Africa Economic Forum, the student-led conference will host its 19th edition. The event is a collaboration between Columbia Business School and the greater Columbia Africa community. It seeks to provide a platform for top business leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders to discuss key topics affecting the continent while offering networking opportunities for participants.
This year, the conference is running under the theme Meeting the Moment, and seeks to reflect on Africa’s history and build a better future.
The two execs will be joined by Tunde Oguntimein (Major League Soccer vice-president of commissioner office), Dayo Ogunyemi (Hatch/234 Media founder) and Elizabeth Oputa (Amazon Prime Video senior brand manager of Africa Middle East).
They will be featured in a panel discussion dubbed Cultural Shifters. Moderated by marketing strategy consultant Yvoire Whittaker, the session is tailored toward highlighting how culture and creativity find expression in their life, as well as navigating the challenges related to their work. It will also look at creating footprints that “leverage upbringing and influences innovative ideas and global transformations.”
Conference co-chairs Whittaker, Daniela Bushiri, Dalisu Jwara, Lidiya Denu, GT Svanikier and Owen Odigie, in a joint statement, said: “With our incredible line-up of speakers, we’ll explore how to harness the digital age, Africa’s status as a growing economic powerhouse, and our unique and diverse cultures as assets that will drive the entire continent forward for years to come... We will celebrate the progress made and discuss innovative solutions to build the Africa we want.”
