Real name Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, Wizkid was born on 16 July 1990 in Lagos, Nigeria as the last of six children.
He got his big break, with the release of the mega-hit "Don’t Dull", which was recorded under singer and label owner Banky W, who discovered the younger man at an audition. Banky W signed him along with rapper Skales on to his record label Empire Mates Entertainment.
Wizkid's career took off with his debut album 'Superstar' (2011) stabilising a pop sound previously established by Wande Coal. The album produced hit singles 'Pakurumo' and 'Holla at Your Boy'. He became sought after by artists to contribute hooks and choruses to songs, notably Samklef's 'Noni'. A compilation album by the EME all stars saw Wizkid on a large number of songs. The album produced the hit 'Baddest Boy' and 'Roll It', and a few others. Shortly after a disagreement ensued between EME and Wizkid. This was settled and Wizkid got his own label Star Boy Entertainment.
His sophomore 'Ayo' was released in 2014. It produced perhaps his most widely heard song 'Ojuelegba' which was remixed by Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie as well as by Canadian rapper Drake and UK rapper Skepta.
Wizkid has won numerous awards including MOBO Awards for Best African Act in 2011. In the same year, he won the Next Rated Award at The Headies. He was successful yet again at the 2015 Headies, where he won Song of the Year for 'Ojuelegba' and Best R&B Album for 'Ayo'.
