Call for entries: 2020 Prague International Indie Film Festival
The organisers of the Prague International Indie Film Festival (PIIF) are calling on film composers, sound artists, filmmakers, actors and producers from all genres and countries to submit films ahead of the event and awards ceremony at Edison Filmhub in Prague, Czech Republic, on 19 September.
All films will be reviewed and scored by an experienced jury from France, the UK, US, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Czech Republic and Iran. PIIF is an event with an annual gala, screening and awards ceremony in the emblematic Edison Filmhub, home of indie filmmakers in Prague, Czech Republic.
Submissions can be made here. The winners of the annual gala awards will receive a PIIF trophy, in addition to a laurel and certificate.
The winners will be selected from the following short-film categories:

- Best Sound Design
- Best Short
- Best Foreign short
- Best Documentary short
- Best Animation short
- Best Experimental short
- Best Student short
- Best Producer
- Best Director (Female)
- Best Director (Male)
- Best First Time Filmmaker
- Best Student Director (Female)
- Best Student Director (Male)
- Best Actress
- Best Actor
- Best Actress Debut
- Best Actor Debut
- Best Supporting Actress
- Best Supporting Actor
- Best Acting Ensemble
- Best Cinematography
- Best Editing
- Best Production Design
- Best Screenwriting
- Best Visual Effects
- Best Costume Design
- Best Makeup and Hairstyling
- Best Young Filmmaker
“We are aiming to discover independent projects from all genres from all countries and help them to be represented in the global film industry, meet people, and make contacts,” PIIF said. “Our goal is to award the best films from independent filmmakers after an evaluation of the creativity, storytelling, cinematography, pacing, performances, direction, structure, sound and the general quality of the film."
PIIF rules
- In order to submit a film, you must own the rights or have a permission from the owner.
- Films must be 2018 or newer to qualify for an award.
- Any foreign film that is not in English must have English subtitles.
- All fees are non-refundable.
- PIIF will not be responsible for damaged copies
- DCP copy of the film is required for the annual gala screening.
- Students must present valid student ID in order to receive our student discount.
- Not all the submissions are selected for the official competition. Judges are free to make their own choices and no answers will be given about not selected films.
- PIIF may consider any film to be disqualified if the festival considers the content inappropriate. If you have any question regarding this decision you might contact the organisers at info@piif.org.
- Filmmakers can submit the film in multiple categories in order to become a multi-award film. Judges may suggest the categories that are more suitable for the film to apply. The decision about the nominations is strictly determined by judges and no selection is guaranteed.
- By submitting a movie, you authorise PIIF to use, distribute and share the film poster, trailer, synopsis and movie stills in its social media.
- Maximum length allowed is 40 minutes.
