Will Davido ever release a second album?
It appears Davido has postponed the release of his second album.
Fans will recall that a promise for a new album has been made several times by the ‘Aiye’ singer. In the meantime, he has made a number of tracks keeping him in the conversation. The songs ‘Gobe’, ‘Dodo’ and ‘Owo ni Koko’ were at some point believed to be leading to a second album after his debut album Omo Baba Olowo in 2012.
That belief has been tested several times. However, the singer’s new deal with Sony Music and then Sony Music’s RCA label injected fresh into the sophomore album wait.
Several weeks later and the specific details of the Sony Music signing are still unknown. Whether an album will be released to the market soon is unclear as well. News of collaborations with American artists including Tinashe remain news.
Now the singer himself seems to have deferred the release of an album for something smaller. While he has made several announcements via social media, mostly causing some delight among fans, his latest announcement maybe met with less enthusiasm.
“September we begin the journey to the 'Son of Mercy' double EP,” he posted alongside a photo of himself on social media.
The expected second album was to be named ‘The Baddest’ after his nickname. So far that project has been rarely spoken about. in fact, the other album mentioned was a possible collaboration with his pop rival Wizkid. With the current announcement, however, it appears both the official solo album will and the one with Wizkid, will take some time to reach fans.
It is not clear if Davido means the double EP will be released in September or perhaps work on the EP starts in September. All that is certain is that at some point Davido will release new music. Fans can be grateful for this even as the wait for that second album continues.
