Nigeria’s YCee releases video with SA’s DJ Maphorisa
Top Nigerian rapper and songwriter YCee has released a video of his ‘Omo Alhaji’ remix, which features one of South Africa’s sought-after producers, DJ Maphorisa.
The remix contains the fast-paced beats that characterize YCee’s energetic flow, which commands attention. Shot in Johannesburg, South Africa, by La Dupont Productions, DJ Maphorisa fuses his unique southern sound into a rhythm that seamlessly blends with Ycee’s style, delivering a street and radio banger.
DJ Maphorisa, a producer with the Uhuru music group, changed the lyrics, rhythm and tempo of the song to create this club-banger. A day after being released, the video has garnered 45,168 YouTube views. It is also available on iTunes for sale.
Both artists have a rich musical background and have had success in their regions and abroad. YCee, whose EP The First Wave will be released soon, braved the rains at the Afropolitan Vibes with fellow musician Maka. In addition, the Tinny Entertainment rapper was nominated in the MAMA 2016 Best Hip Hop category alongside YBNL frontman Olamide, South African rappers Riky Rick and Emtee, as well as Ivory Coast’s Kiff No Beat.
Not new on the international arena, Maphorisa’s profile is on the rise following some of the performances and collaborations he has done. In May this year he co-produced Drake’s single ‘One Dance’, which features Nigerian star Wizkid and Kyla. In August the top producer performed at the Passport Experience (PXP) Festival at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta in the US. He joined top musicians like Senegalese-American star Akon, Shaggy and Rich Homie Quan at what was dubbed “the first truly international music festival”.
Collaborations between artists from different African countries seem to be the talk of the town. Zimbabwean artist Cindy Munyavi and Tanzania’s Linah Sanga announced that they are set to collaborate on a new single. The single will be released before year-end together with a video. Zimbabwe’s Jah Prayzah also collaborated with Tanzanian star, Diamond Platnumz on a track that features on Prayzah’s album Mudhara Vachauya. Last month Mozambican hip hop sensation Laylizzy released his much-awaited music video for his latest single, ‘Hello’, which featured top South African rapper AKA.
