Efya (born Jane Efya Awindor) came into the music scene as runner-up on the television show “Stars of the Future” in 2008. A graduate of Theatre Arts and Music, Efya was member of the duo Irene and Jane.
The duo released a single album Unveiled before breaking up. Subsequently, Efya got signed to One Nation Entertainment in 2011. A mixtape, This Is Not the Album, was released in 2013, and for four straight years, starting from 2009, Efya won the Best Female Vocalist of the Year category at the Ghana Music Awards. She released her debut album, Janesis, this year.
Her co-performer Olamide has released five solo albums and one collaborative album with the rapper Phyno. Reports of a sixth album this year have been unconfirmed by the artist. He has, however, released a number of singles this year, including ‘Owo Blow’.
The One Africa Music Fest in Houston is a sequel of sorts to a July concert which took place in Brooklyn.
