Call for applications: Oroko Radio residency in Ghana
Ghanaian radio station Oroko Radio is accepting applications for its inaugural residency programme ahead of its launch in December.
The independent, not-for-profit channel will operate as a community, internet radio station. It was co-founded by a group of industry professionals and artists with roots in Ghana, Nigeria, Germany, and the UK.
Successful applicants will join high-profile residents including rapper and activist Wanlov, indie collective SuperJazzClub, producer TMSKD DJ, Blaq Pages, DJ Sensei Lo and Afro-folk artist Tommy WÁ.
Requirements:
- Anyone is eligible to apply. However, priority will be given to Africans and the diaspora, particularly applicants based in Accra.
- Applications can be made in English or French.
- Interested participants must include detailed descriptions of the format of the show that they would like to create, as well as the themes or topics.
- The show doesn’t need to be a DJ mix. Applicants can play full songs without transitions, talk in between, host a talk show, or put together sound collages.
- Preference will be given to shows that are different from the station’s current show list, or present new perspectives.
The application deadline is 30 November at 10pm CAT.
For its launch in December, the station will host a series of panels, pop-ups and events, as well as DJ workshops for minority communities.
“We aim to reclaim and recenter narratives from the African and Diasporic artistic communities, with a particular focus on local perspectives in Accra, in addition to cultivating and nurturing relationships with like-minded projects across the globe,” the station said. “Oroko Radio will shine a spotlight on alternative sounds and thoughts coming from and influenced by the continent.”
