Nigeria's Fireboy DML scores FIFA 21 soundtrack slot with Scatter
Nigerian artist Fireboy DML’s 2019 single ‘Scatter’ has been listed among the official tracks for EA Sports’ FIFA 21 football simulation video game.
The deal was negotiated by Empire and YBNL, the labels to which Fireboy DML is signed. The announcement was made on 28 September ahead of the game’s global launch on 9 October. The development also arrives a month after the release of the singer’s second album Apollo. This will mark his maiden appearance on the game, which is now in its 28th instalment.
‘Scatter’ is taken off Fireboy DML’s debut album Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps. The single has accumulated more than 30 million streams across digital platforms.
EA Sports says the FIFA 21 soundtrack will feature more than 100 artists from 23 countries. ‘Scatter’ was selected alongside tracks by fellow Nigerian Rema, Jamaican reggae singer Buju Banton, London-based musician Leyma and American hip hop act 070 Shake. Somali-born rapper K’naan and Ghana’s Rocky Dawuni are among other African acts whose music has previously appeared on the game.
‘Scatter’ will be featured on the main football soundtrack while Rema’s ‘Beamer’ will be available in the Volta (street soccer) mode of the game. Fans can sample the Volta soundtrack while playing other modes such as FIFA Ultimate Team and Career Mode by changing the in-game settings.
“The menu's soundtrack features massive new music from established artists and hot newcomers, while the Volta Football soundtrack drives street action with the latest and greatest in grime, electronic and hip hop,” EA Sports said.
FIFA 21 wil be available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles as well as for Microsoft Windows. Versions are also expected for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Google Stadia in the near future.
