Uganda: Nyege Nyege announces final line-up
The organisers of Nyege Nyege International Music Festival have released the final line-up of artists for this year’s edition.
The annual festival, which was recently named as one of the top summer festivals in the world, takes place on the banks of the Nile River in Jinja, Uganda, from 1 to 3 September 2017.
Last month, the organisers released an initial batch of artists to play at the festival. They are Cameroonian singer Reniss, who is scheduled to appear alongside rapper Jovi, Ghanaian DJ and producer Gafacci as well as South Africa’s Cruel Boyz.
European acts include Peter Power, DJ Spooky, Airhead, Ninos Du Brasil and Harmonous Thelonious. Joining them will be AK Simba and Latinum from Uganda, Canada’s Ghislain Poirier as well as Kenyan producers Sichangi and Mawe.
The festival will also showcase Ugandan label Nyege Nyege Tapes, which since its launch in January 2017 garnered worldwide acclaim for showcasing emerging underground artists from East Africa such as Sisso Records, Disco Vumbi and Otim Alpha.
Nyege Nyege, which is sponsored by Music In Africa and Goethe-Institut, has served in previous editions as the East African debut for kuduro pioneer DJ Marfox, satirical Ghanaian rappers FOKN Bois, Scottish sound system Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Niger-based synth pioneer Mamman Sani, South African house producer Aero Manyelo, Burkinabe rapper Joey Le Soldat, North African electronic music collective Arabstazy, Senegalese electronic producer Ibaaku and Mozambican/Ghanaian duo Gato Preto.
