Watch Boiler Room session in Joburg
Music broadcast platform Boiler Room came to Johannesburg for a spectacular show that featured South African DJs Maphorisa, Da Capo, Uncle Partytime, Symatics and songstress Moonchild Sanelly on 21 June.
Johannesburg was the fourth and final stop for the True Music Africa series that previously went to Cape Town (South Africa), Douala (Cameroon) and Nairobi (Kenya).
The Johannesburg programme took place over two days, kicking off with a one-on-one talk about African cultural horizons with DJ Oskido and Helen Herimbi. There were also panel discussions about the acceleration of the digital space for African creatives as well as club culture and the creation of new genres.
The Boiler Room was founded by blogger Blaise Bellville who live streamed the first session as an experiment from London in 2010. The brand has grown exponentially since then, with operations in countries such as Japan, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and US to name a few.
The panel discussions, which have become an integrated feature before the music sessions, encourage dialogue about creative industries by bringing together various music professional to share their experiences.
