Namibia: Cassidy Karon to play NUTS gig
Goethe-Institut Namibia will host local rapper Cassidy Karon at a Night Under the Stars (NUTS) concert in Windhoek on 1 October.
The NUTS concert series was established in 2014 as a platform for musicians to showcase their talent. The project targets emerging artists and musicians who have been on the scene for some time. The announcement follows the release of Cassidy’s 11-track album Katura’s Favourite Son on 28 September.
“I’m an electronic musician and experimentation is pivotal to my identity,” Cassidy said. “I try to celebrate who we are and what we’re capable of as a community and act as a voice and reference for children who want to take an alternative approach to life. I celebrate being black and from Katutura. I spread a homegrown narrative of hope and overcoming difficulties we face in our communities. I have experienced the Namibian struggle as well as Namibian victory at the highest level.”
Cassidy has won seven accolades at the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs). He earned himself a name with the Paradox hip hop duo, which was nominated in the Best Hip Hop, Best Kwaito, Best Newcomer and Male Artist of the Year awards at the NAMAs. Some of Cassidy’s well-known songs include ‘Awe’, ‘Chains’ and ‘N Vibe’ featuring Sally Boss Madam.
Besides local acts, NUTS has previously hosted musicians from Zimbabwe, Ghana, Angola, Germany and Canada to promote cooperation and cultural exchange with local artists.
The concert will begin at 7pm (CAT) with limited seats due to COVID-19 regulations. The entry fee to the event is N$20.
