Miči named Apple Music’s Isgubhu cover star
Apple Music has announced Zimbabwean-born and UK-based Afro-house singer, songwriter and producer Miči as the next Isgubhu cover star.
The announcement coincides with her 13-track latest album, Feelings, which is available for streaming on Apple Music. The project is a collection of deeply resonating Afro-house songs that feature heavyweight producers Da Capo and Karyendasoul, as well as Frigid Armadillo and Mpho.Wave, making it a deftly textured and collaborative body of work.
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to geek out and share my favourite tunes,” Miči said.
Miči’s musical journey began as a child singing in church, and continued into her teens when she learned how to play guitar and piano. Over the years she has honed the skill of being able to hear and see musical arrangement in her mind, giving her a unique edge as she often visualises and hears exactly what the track is before she composes anything.
After working with lauded Mzansi DJs and producers like Sun-El Musician, Lemon & Herb, TekniQ, Kid Fonque, and China Charmeleon, Miči’s significant impact on the South African house scene from 2021 was undeniable, drawing inspiration from multiple genres like jazz, neo-soul, gospel, indie, and folk music.
To celebrate her feature, Miči has also created an exclusive Isgubhu playlist that features iconic Afro-house mavens like Prince Kaybee, Sun-El Musician and Mobi Dixon, alongside many DJs and producers.
“Some of these tracks are old, some new, but all of them are classics in my view. I hope more people tap into this amazing scene we’re part of,” she said.
Launched in early 2021, Isgubhu is the definitive home of African dance and electronic music on Apple Music and spotlights and elevates the work of African electronic DJs, producers and creatives. Isgubhu, a Zulu word meaning beat and used to refer to a banging song, pays homage to an evergreen set of genres and the African artists who have played a pivotal role in shaping the dance and electronic scene across the world.
