Ghana’s Josh Blakk named Apple Music Up Next artist
Apple Music has welcomed Ghanaian singer Josh Blakk to its Up Next artist development initiative.
Up Next artists are highlighted on a dedicated playlist showcasing a diverse group of emerging stars. The genre-agnostic playlist features new and emerging artists hand-picked by Apple Music editors from around the world.
The Afropop act was named alongside Ebne Hakim from Ethiopia and ShineTTW from Nigeria, joining a brilliant cast of global Up Next honourees like Rema, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Tems H.E.R., Khalid, Amy Shark, Billie Eilish, Stefflon Don and Bad Bunny.
“I am beyond thrilled to be featured on Up Next Ghana,” Josh Black said. “It’s an amazing feeling to have my music recognised in a place so rich with culture and creativity and I am truly grateful. This honour inspires me to continue sharing my story through music and connecting with incredible fans across the world.”
Born and raised in the capital Accra, Josh Blakk began his musical journey at age seven with guitar and piano, influenced by gospel, highlife, soul, hip hop and contemporary R&B.
Behind the O.N.E. (2023) and O.N.E. Deluxe (2024) collections, Josh Blakk’s Up Next accolade was accompanied by the official video for his ‘Hankipanki (Remix)’ featuring Nigeria’s Ric Hassani.
Meanwhile, fellow Up Next artist ShineTTW has revealed that being named Apple Music’s Up Next artist is a huge honour and a reward for the hard work and passion he has poured into his music. “This recognition not only celebrates my journey so far but also sets the stage for The Chosen One, my first project that embodies my range, artistic vision and unique sound,” he said.
