Radiomonitor launches airplay chart for South Africa
Global airplay monitoring service Radiomonitor has launched a national airplay chart based on impressions and reach in South Africa.
The monitoring service, which is benchmarked against the Billboard charts in the US, provides a list of songs played on radio stations for a particular week. The Radiomonitor app is available for download on iOS and Android devices and is a valuable tool for labels, artists, pluggers, PR companies and publishers.
"We are very proud to officially launch the South African Radiomonitor Airplay Chart,” Radiomonitor SA director Jarrod Assenheim said. “Our chart has an edge against all other music and radio charts in the country in that the chart positions are based on actual airplay reach and not human sentiment.
“There’s been a huge demand to make our radio statistics public in the form of a chart. Now both artists and the public have a go-to chart to see which are the biggest songs in the country based on airplay reach. This week’s number one song on the South African Radiomonitor Airplay Chart is ‘Lalala’ by Black Coffee featuring Usher.”
According to the Radiomonitor website, the service provides in-depth analysis, spins, RAMS, trends, station reports and market shares, among other data.
“The launch of the South African Radiomonitor Airplay Chart is highly significant as all players in the South African music industry ecosystem will have a yardstick for which songs are truly making an impact on SA radio,” Radiomonitor SA said.
“The launch of this new chart is the first of many new endeavours that Radiomonitor SA will be undertaking. Coming soon will be a Top 10 chart for up-and-coming artists that have the potential to do well on radio. This spotlight chart will give artists a platform for exposure and development and for the public to rally behind new talent.
“We monitor music airplay across 97 countries as well as providing powerful in-depth analysis to all parts of the record industry. Launched in South Africa in 2015, Radiomonitor provides data on over 170 radio and 24 TV stations across the country.”
