Kenyan music group The Kansoul tops Mdundo’s top ten weekly hip hop charts with ‘Bablas’ which has since received 858 993 views on youtube. The group’s members are Madtraxx, Mejja and Kid Kora.
The biggest winner is Darassa from Tanzania with four songs at the top ten chart. They include ‘Hasara Roho’ which came in at number two, ‘Weka Ngoma’ at number three, ‘Too much’ (afro pop) at number eight and ‘Muziki’ in which he features fellow Tanzanian Ben Pol is at number ten. The Tanzanian star has maintained his presence in the weekly chats since the release of ‘Muziki’ in 2016.
Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones came in second with three hip hop songs ‘Toa Tint’ which is at number five, ‘Chali ya Ghetto’ in which he features Tanzania’s Rayvanny is at number seven and Mazishi which is at number ten.
This is no surprise seeing that the rapper has had a pretty impactful 2017 by not only releasing hits but also making his debut appearance on the newly merged Coke Studio Africa. His participation has seen him team up with artists and music producers from different regions on the continent.
Other acts on the top ten list are Kenyan female rapper Femi One at number four with the ‘Tippy Toe’ collaboration with Kristoff. Tanzanian Rhymaholic MVI comes in at number six with ‘Give Me Some Air’.
The overall top 100 charts has Willy Paul topping the charts with his gospel song ‘Digiri’.
Mdundo is an East African music platform where music lovers can download old and new tracks for free within a limit. The site makes money on advertisements placed on it and voice advertisement inside the songs (like Youtube) and this is the money that is equally shared with artists at the end of the two quarters.
