William Chirinda - Treasurer
William Chirinda is a corporate governance expert who serves as the chairperson of the Music In Africa Foundation’s (MIAF) Risk Management Committee since August 2021.
Chirinda, whose professional career commenced as a financial accountant, doubles as the company secretary for both the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) and RiSA Audio Visual (RAV). He has been part of the secretariat for the Angel Foundation for Musicians (a foundation seeking to assist indigent musicians negatively impacted by COVID-19). Chirinda also does secretarial work for the South African Music Council (SAMIC).
In line with Corporate Governance Best Practice, the committee recommended that the MIAF board review its founding documents and board structure to ensure alignment with the foundation's exponential growth. This led to a notable increase in engagements between the Risk Management Committee, board and directorate.
Among other achievements, Chirinda has helped fellow MIAF Risk Management Committee members to better position the foundation to deal with existing and emerging risks in its operating environment as well as in the pursuit of its objectives.
In addition to his work in the music industry, Chirinda is the secretary of the Rustenburg Community Development Trust, established by Anglo-American Platinum Plc to implement community development projects in Rustenburg. In 2019, he became a consultant company secretary for both Tiger Brands Dipuno ESD Fund and BMW Skills and ESD Trusts through SNG Grant Thornton.
