BIO
Solidstar (Joshua Iniyezo) was born and raised in Ajegunle, Lagos to parents from Delta State. Losing his dad early meant young Joshua hawked pastries on the streets of Lagos. He took to singing and playing instruments in church but cites secular stars R.Kelly, Kevin Little and 2face as influences.
A record deal with Achievas Records (based in Festac, Lagos) afforded him an opportunity to record his first single with 2face. ‘One in a Million’ (2009) was well received as was follow-up single ‘Omotena’ (2011). In the tradition of R&B, both songs address a love interest, the first a love song, the latter a gentle breakup notice by a commitment-shy young man.
Although early songs from Solidstar connected him to music from Ajegunle, a suburb famous for producing several Nigerian artists in the 90s, later songs have seen the artist try other forms, with varying degrees of success. His album 'Grace & Glory' (2013) failed to receive an enthusiastic welcome, a lack of focus its main shortcoming.
Ahead of his sophomore, the songs ‘Baby Jollof’ (2015) with Tiwa Savage and ‘My Body’ (2015) featuring Timaya have being released with accompanying videos. While 'My Body' is a dancehall track, 'Baby Jollof' is a modern iteration of Ajegunle music of the 90s.
