Emtee
Bio
Emtee is a South African hip-hop musician and producer. Born Mthembeni Ndevu on 15 September 1992 in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, Emtee grew up in Rockville, Soweto and first developed an interest in music while at school. At 17 he started making money from his musical efforts, becoming the youngest choir conductor at Barnato Park High School and winning several provincial competitions as a member of his school's marimba band. In 2010, Emtee collaborated with South African rapper Maraza on a song titled 'In It To Win It', which was featured on Channel O's show 'HeadRush'.
In early 2015, his friend Ruff produced the beat for the song that would become his debut single 'Roll Up', which received major radio play throughout southern Africa. Nigerian star Wizkid and SA rapper AKA featured on the official re-release of the single, titled 'Roll Up Re-up'. The success of the single earned Emtee his first award for Song Of The Year at the 2015 South African Hip Hop Awards. In December 2015 he released debut album, Avery. In March 2016 he was the biggest winner at the Metro FM Music Awards, taking home four trophies. In June he won the SAMA for Best Rap Album. He was one of two African acts (alongside Nigeria's Falz) to be nominated for a BET Award in the US in the category Best New International Act, and was subsequently rumoured to have signed to P.Diddy's Bad Boy Records.
