Ghana: Fra! drops Africa Rise in support of Soulidarity campaign
Ghanaian band FRA! has released ‘Africa Arise’, a hopeful new song in support of Soulidarity, a fundraising campaign for African musicians who have been forced to cancel their international tours as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Africa Rise is a revival call to the sons and daughters of the golden continent to join forces for a common goal, an excellent reminder of our legacy and urging us all to blossom as the sun rises on our land,” George Gogoe, who leads the six-man band, said.
FRA! was gearing up for a number of showcases in Europe this year. Sadly, as is the case with hundreds of other musicians from the continent, the pandemic has forced the band to cancel its international dates.
Soulidarity is an initiative of Germany-based NPO Start With Culture, which aims to raise about $2.6m to help “sustain the affected African musicians for the upcoming months,” it says.
The Soulidarity relief fund gives all eligible applicants between €1 800 [$2 000] to €4 500 as a one-time relief payment. The campaign will collect funds via www.soulidarity.org and GoFundMe.
"The artists who will be selected for the fund will actively create content for the campaign and tell us their personal stories throughout the crisis and how it affects them and their countries,” Start With Culture said.
Other ambassadors of Soulidarity include African music legends Salif Keita and Paulo Flores. Africa Oyé Festival (UK) and Afro-Pfingsten Festival (Switzerland) have also pledged their support for the campaign.
Meanwhile, more music is on the way for FRA! in the coming days, with the group announcing that it will release a single titled ‘Happy' on 10 July.
‘Africa Rise’ was released on Delicious Tunes. Stream it here.
