Brand new release by Mzungu Kichaa
The video of Tanzanian musician Mzungu Kichaa's new single, 'Twajiachia', is out. The song, featuring local dancehall artist Malfred, was recorded at Tao Studio in Hamburg with German producer Flo Bauer during Mzungu Kichaa and Malfred's tour in late 2014. Their Tanzanian backing band Bongo Beat also joined them for the recording session. All musicians are featured in the music video, which was directed and shot on location in Hamburg by Zeki Oguz Teoman.
The video represents the journey of six musicians from Tanzania, who during their tour, do a quick visit for a one day studio session, and record from the heart and from the fingertips.
'Twajiachia' literally means ‘we are letting go’ but in slang it would translate more towards ‘we are having fun’. The chorus ends with the line ‘ngoma likipigwa tuna pata raha tele’ which means ‘when the drum beats, we are filled with joy’.
"At times we all face hardships and music can be an important tool to help bring back the joy and purpose in life. 'Twajiachia' is meant to do exactly this!" said Danish-born Mzungu Kichaa.
The song is an example of the globalization of urban club music: an upbeat fusion between European electronic sounds, Bongo Flava and Jamaican dancehall.
