Ghana: Wanlov the Kubolor to speak at Pa Gya! Literary Fest
Ghanaian musician and activist Wanlov the Kubolor has been confirmed as a speaker at the 2020 Pa Gya! Literary Festival, which will take place at Goethe-Institut in Accra from 16 to 18 October.
Now in its fourth edition, the festival is sponsored by Goethe-Institut Ghana and aims to bring together creatives and intellectuals like writers, critics, academics, performers, artists and musicians for a programme comprising workshops, panel discussions, networking, and book launches and readings.
Wanlov will join author and visual artist Ibrahim Mahama in a conversation exploring “art on the edge“. Their dialogue, which is scheduled for 18 October, will look at the limits of contemporary art.
Pa Gya! will also see appearances by Prof Kofi Anyidoho (University of Ghana), Prof Dannabang Kuwabong (University of Puerto Rico), Prof Ato Quayson (Stanford University), Jan Wagner (Germany), Prof Ladé Wosornu, Nii Ayikwei Parkes (Ghana), Ayesha Harruna Attah (Ghana) and Richard Ali (Nigeria).
The festival will run as a mix of live and virtual segments with limited seating due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of presenters, facilitators and speakers will join virtually.
Apart from a solo music career that has seen him release four albums, Wanlov the Kubolor is also a filmmaker and a strong advocate for human rights, environmental protection and accountable governance. He is one-half of rap duo FOKN Bois alongside 2020 PRS Foundation grantee Mensa. FOKN Bois has built a reputation as one of Ghana's most outspoken music projects for its controversial and humorous socio-political commentary.
