Wizkid releases Made In Lagos album
Nigerian Afrobeats singer Wizkid on 29 October released his new album titled Made In Lagos.
The album is available for streaming and download on various music platforms.
The 14-track project, which Wizkid says is his best work, marks the musician's fourth studio offering and follows Superstar (2011), Ayo (2014) and Sounds From the Other Side (2017). It was released under Sony Music subsidiary RCA Records and was preceded by the singles ‘No Stress’ and ‘Smile’.
Made In Lagos features fellow Nigerian musicians Burna Boy, Terri, Tems and Tay Iwar, as well as US singer H.E.R, the UK's Skepta and Ella Mai and Jamaica's Damian Marley.
“The title of the album is self-explanatory," Wizkid said. "I’m made In Lagos, that’s where I’m from and that’s what I represent. I just really wanted to tell a dope story, no matter the success, no matter how far we go, this is what it is and we make amazing music. As human beings, we all want to grow and evolve in life, so this album is just another step in my music career.”
Born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, Wizkid launched his career in 2001. Since then, he has become one of the top Afrobeats musicians, courting global recognition through a number of hits and high-profile collaborations with big names such as Beyoncé and Drake.
Meanwhile, Made In Lagos arrives as a tribute to his home country of Nigeria, whose young people have, in the past weeks, held street marches against police brutality.
“It has been beautiful to see Nigerians around the world coming together to protest against police brutality,” Wizkid said. “Unity is key. The youth of Nigeria need our collective voices to continue to shine a spotlight to what is happening inside the country. I want to play my part in this and in the movement for a better Nigeria, a better place to live for ourselves, our families – our communities. We will get through this together. Together we move.”
