Uganda's Nyege Nyege festival promises fireworks
Hundreds of music fans will congregate at the Nile Discovery Beach in Jinja, Uganda for a historic weekend as the Nyege Nyege International festival showcases the best of African sounds from 2 to 4 September.
With over 200 artists from 31 countries now confirmed, the festival will offer a selection of top African artists making their East African premiere.
Headliners at the festival will include the grandfather of African electronic music, Mamman Sani from Niger, Burkinabe hip hop performer Joey le Soldat, the Ghanian/Mozambiquan duo Gato Preto as well as multidisciplinary Senegalese artist Ibaaku. The headlining acts will be joined by 80 prominent Ugandan and 60 Kenyan artists.
Returning for the second edition at the festival is Kenyan DJ and producer Blinky Bill who performed at the inaugural edition in 2015. Other East African acts on the line-up are Uganda’s The Dons, Lady Slyke, Albert Ssempeke and Otim Alpha. Kenya’s Tetu Shani, Yellow Light Machine, Cosmic Homies and the Kaya Collective have also been included together with South Sudan’s Winnie Lado.
International artists will include tropical bass pioneer Daniel Haaksman from Germany, Dub Morphology from the UK, DJ Zhao from China and Tropikal Camel from Israel.
Set on the banks of the river Nile, amongst 10 acres of stunning tropical gardens at Nile Discovery Beach in Jinja, the three-day festival will have two stages. It will also feature a daily screening program of films and documentaries about music and art installations.
