SA: Zee Nxumalo drops debut EP KwaNxumalo
South African Afropop singer Zee Nxumalo has released her debut EP KwaNxumalo.
The six-track project follows the successful release he single ‘Hamba’ in May. KwaNxumalo was produced by Profound who recently worked with Khuli Chana on the rapper’s latest single ‘Take Care’.
The EP, which features Azana on ‘Pholile’, is a glimpse into the themes of Zee Nxumalo’s life, including heartbreak and growing up. Throughout the EP, she shares her experiences of being a carefree teen trying to make it in Johannesburg.
“I chose the title KwaNxumalo because it takes me back home and reminds me of how I was raised. My roots and experiences are important to share because they influence my music and how I see the world,” Nxumalo said.
“For instance, the first song on the EP is named ‘eKhoneni’ because the lyrics speak to hard work, work ethic and the encouragement I got from my mother, and that encouragement keeps me fuelled and focused.”
Zee Nxumalo grew up in the Alexandra township in Johannesburg. She recently joined forces with independent record label Punchline Media to officially launch her solo career. She draws inspiration from Kelly Khumalo, The Soil and the late Brenda Fassie.
