Diamond Platnumz surpasses 400 million Boomplay streams
Tanzanian musician and entrepreneur Diamond Platnumz has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing 400 million streams on Africa-facing streaming service Boomplay.
This accomplishment not only cements his position as a dominant force in the music industry but also makes him the first East African artist to reach this achievement.
The bongo flava artist has already broken streaming records by becoming the first artist to achieve 100, 200 and 300 million plays on Boomplay. His latest feat is a testament to his enduring popularity and ability to connect with fans across the continent and beyond.
Diamond Platnumz’s success extends beyond Boomplay. On YouTube, he has garnered almost 9 million subscribers and 2 billion views since joining the platform in 2011. Additionally, he has amassed an impressive 142 million plays on Audiomack and over 300 million streams on Spotify.
Zuchu and Rayvanny, notable artists in the East Africa region, are also approaching the 300 million streams milestone on YouTube. Mbosso and Jay Melody have achieved 200 million streams individually, while Nandy and Alikiba have surpassed 100 million streams each.
Meanwhile, Harmonize, Diamond Platnumz’s former signing at WCB Wasafi, has released his fifth studio album Muziki wa Samia, which pays tribute to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
The project was unveiled on 25 May during a grand ceremony graced by prominent figures from the entertainment industry, including singers, actors and politicians, with President Hassan as the guest of honour.
“Harmonize has impressed me so much,” Hassan said during the album launch. “He has grown and I can also see other creatives flourishing, which makes me proud.”
During the event, the Konde Music Worldwide CEO acknowledged Hassan’s efforts in supporting the Tanzanian entertainment industry, saying the sector is now providing more jobs for young people.
The singer said the album was not just dedicated to Hassan but to all women. It is the follow-up to his fourth studio album Visit Bongo released in November last year.
