African stars lead Afro Nation Portugal 2025 return
Founded in 2019, Afro Nation has been promoted as the world’s largest Afrobeats event. The upcoming edition will take place in Portimão, Algarve.
Afro Nation typically features multiple stages across Afrobeats, amapiano, Afro-house, hip hop, R&B and dancehall, among others. It also traditionally attracts over 40 000 fans and has featured performances from top artists such as Wizkid, Chris Brown, and Beenie Man.
Over the years, the festival has also been held in destinations like Puerto Rico Mexico, and Ghana, which remains the only African country where Afro Nation has been held.
Back in May, US rapper Lil Wayne joined Afrobeats stars Asake and Rema as headliners at the Afro Nation Detroit 2024, marking the second time the festival was held in Miami.
In a documentary released in March, festival founder Adesegun ‘SMADE’ Adeosun Jr said: “It’s everything I’ve always wanted to see: the beauty of it, so many people together to celebrate.”
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who plays a part, from our fans and community travelling from around the world, and our phenomenal artists gracing the stage, to the dedicated teams working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the safety, comfort, and enjoyment for all,” a statement from the organisers reads at the end of the film. “Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. Together we move.”
