Ghana, France host Songwriting Camp and Soundscape Programme in Accra
Ghana and France, on 21 February, hosted a Songwriting Camp and Soundscape Publishing programme at Impact Hub in Accra.
- Ghanaian media personality Antoine Mensah attended the event.
The exclusive listening session showcased original compositions crafted by twelve exceptionally talented songwriters from both countries.
From 17 to 21 February, artists engaged in an intensive cross-cultural collaboration, blending diverse influences to create new music. The initiative celebrated storytelling and artistic exchange, highlighting the power of international partnerships in the music industry and underscoring the creative synergy between Ghana and France.
The evening also marked the conclusion of Soundscape, a pioneering initiative dedicated to music publishing. Over the course of the programme, 22 Ghanaian cultural entrepreneurs participated in an in-depth exploration of Ghana’s musical heritage while working towards the future growth of the national music industry. Through a mix of in-person sessions in Accra and online workshops with international and Ghanaian experts, participants gained valuable insights into copyright management, synchronisation, and music business strategy. The programme also facilitated one-on-one mentorship opportunities, fostering direct connections between Ghanaian and French professionals.
As a recognition of their dedication, participants of the Soundscape programme were awarded official diplomas from Impact Hub Accra and Centre National de la Musique (CNM) during the event.
Both Soundscape and the Ghana x France Songwriting Camp formed key components of the Support to the Expansion of Ghana Music Industry (SEGMI) project. This initiative, implemented by Expertise France in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the Creative Arts Agency, received funding from the French Development Agency (AFD) and the French Treasury. The project aimed to strengthen Ghana’s music copyright environment, promote French-Ghanaian collaborations, and enhance the country’s global music presence.
The closing event featured a night of inspired performances, celebration, and recognition, reinforcing the growing impact of international artistic cooperation. Attendance was by invitation only.
