Born Lerato Molapo in Daveyton township on Johannesburg’s East Rand, Lira is a multi-platinum selling Afro-soul vocalist who refers to her music as a fusion of soul, funk, jazz and traditional African genres. She has released four studio albums to date: 'Feel Good' (2006),
'Soul In Mind' (2008), 'Return To Love' (2011) and 'Rise Again' (2012), as well as the hugely successful live DVD, 'Lira Live In concert: A Celebration' (2009). Her albums have seen her scoop no fewer than eight Samas, including Best Female Artist in 2009 and 2010. She has also been nominated for international awards such as the MOBO award for Best African Act (2009), MTV Africa Awards for Best Female Artist and Best Artist in 2009, and a BET Award for Best International Artist. Over the past few years, buoyed by multi-platinum sales, Lira has made no secret of her desire to find a global audience for her music.
