The song has has garnered Sho Madjozi international attention and a dance challenge to the track went viral after its release.
'Ubumnandi' by Distruction Boyz ft. Nokwazi, DJ Tira, Dladla Mshunqisi and Fearless Boyz
This latest release features some of the best names in the gqom scene. The song celebrates the popular local vosho dance and what makes it stands out is Dladla Mshunqisi's exaggerated and catchy vocal gimmicks.
‘That's for Me’ by Vanessa Mdee ft. Distruction Boyz, DJ Tira and Prince Bulo
Tanzania’s Vanessa Mdee made a surprising appearance on the gqom music scene, a genre that is dominated by South African beatmakers. The East African songbird sought the help of gqom greats Distruction Boyz, DJ Tira and Prince Bulo. The video for the song also features the popular vosho dance.
'Ndakwenza Ntoni' by NaakMusiQ and Bluelle
This one might just be the best gqom song of 2019. It's synth progression is catchier than the ice cream truck tune, and NaakMusiQ performance is so infectious it'll have you playing this song on repeat.
‘Gugulethu’ by Prince Kaybee ft. Indlovukazi, Supta and Afro Brothers
Prince Kaybee is an artist who never disappoints. His May released ‘Gugulethu’ video is a follow up of the ‘Banomoya’ masterpiece. Featuring Indlovukazi, Supta and Afro Brothers, the video is doing well and was sitting on more that 1.6 million YouTube at the time of writing.
‘Inkonjane’ by DJ Mphyd and Tipcee ft. DJ Tira and Dladla Mshunqisi
DJ Mphyd is not new to the gqom scene. Known for his ‘Omunye’ blockbuster, the Cape Town-born producer and fellow artist Tipcee feature DJ Tira and Dladla Mshunqisi on ‘Inkonjane’. The video for the song was released on YouTube in May.
‘Qolo Lami’ by Sparks Bantwana ft. DJ Sox
Composed by Mbuso Dominique Pepu, ‘Qolo Lami’ encourages gqom fans to dance amid booming bass waves. The music video for the song was produced and directed by Monde Dube.
'Ingozi' by Rudeboyz ft. Nokwazi and TNS
‘Ingozi’ deserves a video and we hope the Rudeboyz have that in mind. The song’s pleasant-sounding beats fuse well with Nokwazi and TNS’ mellow voices. ‘Ingozi’ is proof that gqom still has a long future in the music industry.
‘Umcimbi Wethu’ by Tipcee ft. DJ Tira, Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo
‘Umcimbi Wethu’ is one of the best 2019 collaborations so far. Tipcee, who rose to fame in 2017 after featuring on ‘Amadada’ and ‘Malume’, sought the powerful lyrics of the gqom scene's best artists, namely DJ Tira, Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo. The song is off the album of the same name.
‘Freedom’ by uBiza Wethu and Mr Thela
‘Freedom’ is a party song everyone loves jamming to. The track can be classified as an instrumetal, if you don't count the intermittent looped haibos.
‘Gqomoza’ by Havoc Fam
'Gqomoza’ is a party song that will lighten up your mood. Shot in a ghetto suburb, the video for the song was released in March.
‘Sgubhu Re Up’ by Soweto Finest
In the ‘Sgubhu Re Up’ video, Soweto Finest shows off their amazing dance moves in an open space. The song, off the album of the same name, was released in February. More to come from this outfit!
