A blend of soul and world music, Ziia is a musician and singer-songwriter with a warm and gravelly voice who has created a unique world for herself off the beaten track.
A self-taught musician, driven by her own intuition and an effervescent life force that bubbles up inside her and transforms itself into all kinds of rhythms and melodies, this artist has forged a unique style by playing wherever it is possible to create a link with the world.
Her music is just like her, animated by life itself. She speaks of music as a faithful friend, a kind of mirror of the woman she has become through her many travels, encounters, and life’s hard knocks.
After 12 years playing in the street, in bars, on stages and at festivals in Reunion Island, Europe and the rest of the world (India, Zimbabwe, South Africa…), and having self-produced 5 records, including her latest EP ‘Au bout là bas’ (2021 - Inouie Distribution) Ziia has taken the musical laboratory she created during the lonely covid months, and adapted it to the stage.
Even when playing solo she still sounds like a full band, as Ziia creates using her looper with ease, plays traditional Reunionese instruments and modern midi keyboards, and intrigues and bewitches her audience as she plays on her ‘castrol-drum’ guitar she picked up in Cape Town, South Africa.
A musical journey from Zimbabwe to Reunion Island and from Europe to Asia, back to her own bedroom in Reunion, from where the view is so beautiful.
She sings about her quest for freedom, her faith in fraternity, her need to feed off nature and off other people, as well as her nomadic loves and friendships.This heart of many origins sings with inventive optimism, sincerity, hope and enthusiasm.
