Cape Town International Jazz Festival adds more artists
The organiser of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF), espAfrika, has released a line-up of local artists to perform at the 29 and 30 March 2019 event.
The line-up includes jazz artist Don Laka, chart-topping vocalist Craig Lucas, seven-piece indigenous band BCUC, jazz artist and saxophonist Don Vino, rapper Sho Madjozi vocalist Ntsika and two-time Grammy award winners Soweto Gospel Choir.
Previously announced artists include ten-time Grammy Award winner Chaka Khan (US), award-winning jazz pianist Eliane Elias (Brazil), multi-instrumentalist group Moonchild (US), The Lady Day Big Band (SA) and singer and songwriter Shekhinah (SA). More artists are expected to be announced in the next few months.
Festival Director Billy Domingo said the festival continuously strives for a line-up balancing South African, African and international artists. “International guests come to South Africa to see artists they are not able to see back at home,” he said. “We have created a legacy of supporting South African artists by providing the international platform they deserve.
“South African artists add to the rich musical heritage and then, combined with the international acts, provide the unique programming that is synonymous with Africa’s grandest gathering.”
“It’s a huge honour and usually I don’t think I will agree to any shows so far in advance,” Sho Madjozi said. “I want to add more of a live element to the show. I want to showcase a little bit of me and a lot more of the work that I have done.”
Tickets to the event can be obtained via Computicket.
