Deezer: Soolking and Ninho are the most streamed artists in Africa

The list of artists was revealed on 22 May in celebration of the upcoming Africa Day on 25 May, and features the top 20 most streamed artists in Africa.

Other African artists who featured on Deezer's list include Burna Boy, Amr Diab and Kabza De Small, who soared high as the top five most streamed African artists.

Global icons Eminem, Drake, Justin Bieber and Billie Eilish are also popular among music fans in Africa.

Deezer also unveiled the top 20 most streamed artists from Africa and the diaspora, again led by Soolking and Ninho, and included top musicians such as Maître Gims and Wizkid, among others.

“What makes Africa so special is the rich diversity that can be found everywhere, from our culture, languages, art and especially our unique music,” Deezer's editor for Africa, Sotiris Moldovanos, said.

“At Deezer we want to celebrate and showcase the incredible artists and the music making waves across the continent and the world. Local artists across Africa continue to create new sounds that inspire fellow artists around the world.”

The list was largely dominated by musicians in the hip hop and pop idioms, with very little representation from gospel, which is typically the most consumed genre in many African countries.

Additionally, Deezer has released Africa Unites, a curated playlist that includes current hits from across the continent.
