Namibia: NUTS to host Janelle Botha and Die Wandelaars on 6 September
Goethe-Institut Namibia will host the local Afrikaans rock band Janelle Botha & Die Wandelaars at its Night Under the Stars (NUTS) concert series in Windhoek on 6 September.
The band’s performance follows Najah and Sir Ray’s gigs in January and April, respectively. Botha and Die Wandelaars, pioneers in revolutionising the Afrikaans music scene, will aim to captivate audiences with songs from their collection, showcasing their unique sound and style.
Formed for the Camp Rock Festival in 2023, Janelle Botha & Die Wandelaars are a unique blend of talented musicians, including Tyron Roetz, Kyle Cyriax, Wayne Wentzel, and Maryke Koekemoer. Together, they create a vibrant sound that showcases the diversity and beauty of Namibia.
Lead vocalist Janelle Botha, who is passionate about breaking down misconceptions surrounding Afrikaans music, said: “I want to show that Afrikaans music can connect deeply with listeners, just like any other genre. Singing in Afrikaans allows me to express myself authentically and share the unique beauty and cultural depth of this language.”
NUTS was established in 2014 to create a platform to support and celebrate local artists and live music. The project is targeted at emerging artists and musicians who have been on the scene for some time. Some of the artists who have performed at NUTS include German musicians Banu Tülü and Miriam Koch, Bonganisoul (South Africa/Namibia), Shishani (Namibia/Netherlands), and local acts Taylor Jaye World and DJ Castro.
