Spotify introduces ‘location-aware’ augmented reality playlists

The feature, which is now available to Spotify Premium subscribers, will show a location-aware 3D Spotify interface. Through the app, subscribers can pin their recently played artists, albums or tracks to specific locations in their homes. This way playlists can be curated for each specific room in the house. The tool also enables users to automatically change playlists as they move between rooms.

Users can also access and control their music using Spotify on their phone, desktop, tablet or the Spotify app on the Magic Leap One device, so there is no need to take the headset off.

Magic Leap One is a head-mounted virtual retinal display. The headset is primarily aimed at artists, app developers and music lovers.

Spotify is also the first music streaming platform to work with Magic Leap’s Background Music Service (BMS). BMS works with multi-component music player apps to allow the audio player component (music service provider) to play in the background when the front-end user interface component (music service app) is closed or inactive, Magic Leap said.

Meanwhile, Amazon Music may be adding music videos to its platform soon, according to reports. The company seems to be enhancing its product range, considering the number of new features adopted like its recent introduction of high-definition audio.

However, at this stage it is not clear whether the technology giant will venture into the 3D augmented reality space.
