The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is proud of its partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as a Strategic Implementing Partner (SIP) for its Social Employment Fund (SEF). Through this collaboration, MIAF is running a national programme that is creating jobs, addressing skills gaps, and strengthening South Africa's creative industries — in line with the SEF's overarching goal to generate work for the common good and build community value through employment, social contribution, and inclusive economic participation. Operating under the banner NEFCISA (National Employment Facility for Creative Industries in South Africa), the initiative is recruiting and training participants, matching them with host organisations, and has already placed 1 500 workers across the country — surpassing its original target of 1 000. NEFCISA is delivered through a network of 20 host organisations spanning five provinces, who are actively hosting participants and contributing to work for the common good across South Africa's creative and cultural industries. Key Objectives: Support employment and entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Offer skills development and training programmes. Foster partnerships between public and private creative sectors. Promote South African creativity at both provincial and national levels Foster community development through social contribution.

Music In Africa Gender @ Work is a three-year training programme aimed at upskilling and increasing the participation of female professionals in the African music sector. Launched by the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) in April 2019, the programme is connected to the MIAF’s ACCES music conference – a pan-African event held in a different African country every year. This connection enables the programme to reach new participants in a different African country every year. The programme marks the beginning of a more concerted effort by the Foundation to support the participation and inclusion of women in all facets of its programmes and the music sector in Africa as a whole. For cultural and creative practitioners and organisations operating in southern Africa, access to funding remains a major challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a massive impact on government policy, spending and the economy in general, and has seen spending on culture being moved further down the list of priorities. Further, the cultural and creative industries repeatedly cite four main areas where investment is needed for growth, which are increased visibility, mobility including access to new markets, finance and support structures.

The Afrikaans Gaan Global music festival will go on as scheduled despite a ban on public gatherings by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the weekend, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

South African Afrikaans singer Kurt Darren is among the artists scheduled to perform at the event.

The concert series will be live-broadcasted from Weiveld in Pretoria to fans around the world on 28 March, 4 and 11 April. According to organisers, the event would be used as a pilot project to prepare for the Jesus is King global event.

The project is a collaboration between JacarandaFM, iTickets, Virtual Stream, The Marketing Zoo, Weiveld and Super Events. South African singer Kurt Darren is among the top local artists who will showcase at the event and more artists are set to be announced.

"A live stream concert, featuring some of South Africa’s top artists, will aim to bring relief to those who need it the most during this difficult time in which the world is now plunged," Afrikaans Gaan Global said. "Darren is one of the artists that will be part of this concert and more artists will be announced soon."

Kurt Darren wrote on Facebook: “Afrikaans Gaan Global will cross borders to create relief amidst COVID-19 crises. A live stream concert, featuring some of South Africa’s top artists, will aim to bring relief to those who need it the most during this difficult time in which the world is now plunged," he said. "The Afrikaans Gaan Global concert series will take place on 28 March, 4 April and Saturday, April 11 and will be enjoyed by online audiences around the world.

“So many events have been cancelled and there are few people who will not be affected by this pandemic. This is a wonderful initiative and we as South African artists now have the opportunity to stand together and make a difference.”

iTickets managing director said: “The response from artists about this concert is incredible and it once again shows how we, as South Africans, can make a plan and stand together.”

Meanwhile, the National Arts Festival will go ahead as scheduled amid the ongoing coronavirus event cancellations and postponements. The organisers said the festival is going completely digital and is intended as the first event in the country to host a virtual edition.
