Burna Boy’s Last Last one of Google’s most-searched songs in 2022

At the close of every year, Google shares the trending searches, with the 2022 music list featuring several Indonesian and Japanese songs as well as a reggaeton-inspired Pakistani track.

Burna Boy came in at number 10 courtesy of his monster hit ‘Last Last’, while Styles’ ‘As It Was’ was seventh.

The number one most-searched song worldwide is ‘Tak Ingin Usai’ (Don’t Want to End) by Indonesian singer Keisya Levronka. The hit is Keisya’s fourth single released under Universal Music Indonesia and the first song by an Indonesian singer under Universal Music Indonesia to chart on Spotify’s Global Top 200.

‘Tak Ingin Usai’ was the top-streamed song on six Indonesian digital music platforms – iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, JOOX and Resso – simultaneously on June 3. Other Indonesian songs on Google’s top ten most-searched include ‘Satru 2’, a duet by Denny Caknan with Happy Asmara, and ‘Joko Tingkir’ by 12-year-old singer Farel Prayoga.

The second most-searched song was ‘Pasoori’, meaning trouble, a reggaeton-inspired Punjabi and Urdu track by Pakistani singer Ali Sethi featuring Instagram cover artist Shae Gill. The track is the first by a Pakistani artist to feature on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 chart. The song was featured in an episode of the Disney+ miniseries Ms Marvel, earning it more exposure in the Western markets.

‘Glimpse of Us’ by Japanese artist Joji came third. The song is taken off Joji’s third studio album, Smithereens. It has peaked at No.1 in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines, while reaching the top ten in the US, Canada, Ireland, Norway, and Vietnam.

Joji is a Japanese native singinging primarily in English. The other Japanese artists on the list are ‘Mixed Nuts’ by Official Hige Dandism and Sekai no Owari’s ‘Habit’.

The trending searches also included the deaths of leading musicians in 2022, with Aaron Carter, Olivia Newton-John and Taylor Hawkins, among others, appearing in the top 10.
